Warning: consider the implications of EGO’s warranty on the riding mowers!
I have a Z6 riding mower that I’m having trouble with. I’ve done three small mows this year, which is going into year three of the five-year warranty. The first two years, the mower worked great. In the first few mows this year, the mower has started conking out randomly. In my first mow, it happened once, and I wondered if it was an anomaly. The second mow it happened a few more times. So, when I went out for the third use, I planned to record how long it took before the first occurrence, the conditions, the terrain, etc.
Once I was finished, I reached out to EGO’s product support. The support person read the troubleshooting steps from their prepared card like a novice IT person. “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” and things of that nature. Try taking the batteries out for 15 minutes, then put them back in and see if it’s better. See if you can turn the blade manually. It sounded like several low chances of solving my problem. I asked what happens next if these things don’t resolve my problem? Do you have a service tech come out to repair? “No, you have to bring the mower to one of our service centers. If you have a pickup or a trailer.”
Unfortunately, I do not have a pickup truck or trailer to haul the mower. I looked up my closest service center – 40 miles away. Ugh. I know, first-world problems, but this is the kind of thing I should have considered before purchasing. What happens if I have problems? How are they resolved?
Take this as my warning to you. What happens if you buy an EGO riding mower and have problems with it?
