Passed with SIE foe dummies
I wanted to make a post since I had tried to find information but had problems finding it when I looked. I passed with the only paid materials being the SIE for dummies book (I think you can get it for free other places but it was 20 on Amazon). I have a background in accounting so have taken several college level finance classes, but that was a few years ago.
The book itself was not bad, it gave a great overview, the tests at the end of the chapters weren't bad, but there were a few mistakes in the book I had to be aware of (like they still use t+2) and there were two tests at the end of the book. I took both the exams pretty immediately after completing the book and did poorly (62 and 70 scores). I then read the explanations for all questions, not just the ones I missed. I am not sure that the book by itself would have been enough for me to pass, but i dont learn best from only reading material so maybe for someone else it would be.
I then started watching the sie playlists from the series7guru, and Ken Finnen, and honestly I cannot recommend watching both of them enough. They do such a great job of breaking down the topics, and building upon your existing knowledge. I watched the longer videos from the series7guru on the topics that are more heavily tested on the actual exam, then did many of their free practice exams where I would pause and answer, and really stick with that answer before listening to their explanations. I only used their free content, but I am sure their paid content is even more helpful if you feel you need it.
For the test itself I think it was actually slightly easier than the sie for dummies exam simply because the dummies book uses so many roman numeral questions that did not appear at all on the actual test, but probably slightly harder than a lot of the free practice exams I watched. I don't think I got a great draw, but really know what RRs are and aren't allowed to do, and things like what would effect an U4. Really make sure you understand the difference between the securities, the different legislation and what they effect, and some very basic suitability for customer based off of a brief explanation. I also had a lot of question about stock. I also had a question over financial statements which I didn't really expect but luckily was prepared for because of my accounting background.
Edit: I realize I misspelled in the title, the app crashed when I almost finished the first time and I had to re type everything
