Switching to a new pain management doctor

I currently have pain management doctor. He’s just a regular MD but it’s a pain management clinic that has a lot of patients and they prescribe opiates. I’ve tried talking with my doctor about the type of pain I have , which is chronic musculoskeletal as well as neuropathic pain. I also let him know I needed something that doesn’t wear off so fast and has less peaks and valleys. I mentioned the possibility of a pain medication that works on neuropathic pain by reducing glutamate signaling via the NMDA receptors, one of them being methadone. He said he doesn’t prescribe that and put me on Xtampza. I tried it for 6 months and even had some breakthrough meds added. All it doing is adding more medication without fully addressing the issue. I found an anesthesiologist pain management doctor because they have more knowledge and experience in medication. The doctor agreed to take me on as a patient with one condition, that I stop taking diazepam. I told them I have no problem removing all my medications as long I find the one medication that helps with the main problem, my pain. I’m on a sleep medication. I’m on an anxiety medication and on an antidepressant. I told the lady at the new practice that if I am not in pain I can sleep and don’t need sleep meds. If I’m not in pain I won’t have anxiety and if I’m not in pain I won’t suffer from depression. One medication could potentially eliminate three meds that I believe to be unnecessary if the problem that is pain is managed properly! I have a plan of how I want to let him know about my interest in methadone (or levorphanol), but I’d like to know what some of the people here in the community think.
