Poodles and Cats

Hey all,

Thanks to your comments on my previous post, I'm sure now that the dog I want is 100% a standard poodle. Already talking to breeders and filtering out the puppy mills from the responsible(hopefully).

Some of your comments, as well as my own research have made me aware of 'prey drive'.

Which has turned into my biggest concern with getting a poodle since (if i got it right) they're hunting dogs and 'low prey drive' doesn't seem to be a trait you can breed for? Regardless, my concern is that I have 2 cats.

One is a small female 7-8lbs deaf cat. She's really playful and does love dogs. She likes my Schnauzer even though he ignores her.

My other cat is 14-16lbs and I'm not really worried about him, he's bigger than my schnauzer.

So my question is, do any of you have both a poodle and a cat? If so do they get along? Did you introduce your cats to an older poodle or to a puppy?

If any of you have cats and your poodle has a high prey drive, how do you deal with it?

Unrelated, but my wife has fallen in love with a neighbors goldendoodle, haven't read much on those but what's the general consensus on them? Would they be a better alternative? I don't particularly love the idea of spending 2k+ on a mix breed.
