MM where one MC thinks the other deserves the worse and is proven wrong

Book Request

I finished {Inside by Nicky James} not too long ago and honestly it has sat with me in a way very few books do. For anyone unfamiliar, it follows a correction officer and a prisoner on death row who was wrongfully convicted. Forced proximity, slow burning yearning, and a romance that unfolds through small moments and lingering glances rather than physical ones. The tension between the two characters just kept building and layering on top of the plot in a way that made it genuinely hard to put down. My heart ached for Bishop throughout the entire thing. The way Nicky James told their story through restraint rather than spectacle made the chemistry hit so much harder because of it.

I am looking for more books that carry that same feeling. It does not have to be set in a prison specifically but that law and crime dynamic is what I am drawn to. A cop or someone who represents the law opposite someone on the other side of it, whether that person is guilty or not is not the point for me. It is more about the tension that comes naturally from two people who exist on opposite sides of a line that neither of them can ignore, and what happens when something grows between them anyway.

Bonus points if the MC starts out genuinely believing the other is guilty, maybe even feeling like he deserves exactly where he ended up, and has to slowly reckon with everything he thought he knew about him. The shift from judgment to something far more complicated is the kind of character journey I find myself thinking about long after I finish a book.

If anyone has recommendations along those lines I would genuinely love to hear them.

Thanks in advance.
