Post Surgery Update/Feelings

Surgery Story

Hello again! It’s been 9 hours since my tonsillectomy, and here’s an update/ how I feel currently.

After I posted yesterday, I struggled to fall asleep because I was really warm, but I slept for a few hours, woke up at 5 AM, got dressed, and left the house.

All of the nervousness I had yesterday became worse the closer to my surgery time I got. I got checked in, they took me to a room, had me get changed into a gown, and take my vitals. A nurse tried to put the IV tube in my right arm, but it wouldn’t thread, so she had to swap out with another nurse, and got the IV on the back of my left hand. I talked to the doctor, anesthesiologist, and another nurse before they rolled me out the OR. Honestly, I don’t remember anything after that. I closed my eyes are they got me situated into the OR, and the next thing I knew, I was back in the room I started in, but 4 hours later. My parents and the nurses were so nice and patient with me. My parents got me a cute husky plushy from the gift shop!

I was originally supposed to stay for an hour or two while my vitals stabilized and the pain/nausea subsided, but the longer I stayed, the more my oxygen levels went down, and at 5PM, they told me that I should probably stay the night to keep an eye on me, and I agreed. I got moved, and Amy now in my room alone because my parents had something else important to do tonight. For now, I’m relaxing and watching Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on the TV

As for how I feel, I honestly thought that it would be worse. I thought it would be immediately painful, but when I woke up, I could talk somewhat normally, and could barely feel anything at all. As time goes on, I can feel it more and more, but it’s not unbearable pain, even with just Tylenol. After my surgery, I had a chocolate pudding and green jello, and then before I was moved to another room, I asked for some more jello and had 2 orange jello cups, so I’m pretty good so far.

I’m hoping I can get home by tomorrow morning, but we’ll see how tonight goes. Goodnight!
