I'm having an issue with expanding storage and am not sure what to do

I have a cfw ps3 fat, all the fancy mumbo jumbo done, and now I'm trying to expand the storage to get more games.

I have a 64 GB USB 3.0 thumb drive and when I put it into the right USB port on the ps3 it won't add it to the system storage, it still only shows the 37 some GB that comes with it.

The USB is formatted to Fat32 and is partitioned to 16 whatever it was (sorry I forgot). Basically it's formatted correctly.

I've heard it's too large for the system and to go 32 gigs or less and I've heard it just won't work with usb 3.0 but I wanted a second opinion before buying another drive.
