Advice on painkillers during surgery

Hi all! I’m having surgery next week for the first time in years. I’m tapering and currently on 10mg and have been clean for 3 years.

For my surgery, I can opt for moderate sedation or stronger sedation. The stronger option is a combination of Ketamine, Fentanyl and some kind of benzo.

I’m leaning towards the stronger sedation because I do not want to be awake or in pain during the surgery. Post-op is high doses of Ibuprofen.

Has anyone turned down pain meds during a surgical procedure? I’m not worried about relapsing (if it was something euphoric like Opana or Dilaudid, I’d be concerned but I never liked Fentanyl) but I’m still feeling a little anxious about having pain meds after so long, especially since I’m on such a low dose of methadone.

Any advice or experiences would be much appreciated! Thanks!
