There are still things to laugh about during the rough times...
Long story short, I'm 35, had stage 3 grade 3 breast cancer, had a nipple sparing bilateral mastectomy, my skin died on one side, had to go back into surgery within just a few hours of my followup appt, and pretty much lost my whole breast. That's a whole lot of garbage to deal with.
I had my post op appointment with the plastic surgeon, where they would be removing the bandages, and I was absolutely dreading it. Cried for days at the thought of it. I never expected to have to have everything removed, so I took it really hard.
The nurse that took me back was wonderful. She was very sensitive to my situation. She removed my bandages and removed my drain, and then said "I'll be right back I have to get the iPad," and she walked out of the room.
When she left, I faced the one thing I had been dreading since my 2nd surgery. I walked over to the mirror and I looked at my new chest. I didn't cry, it actually looked better than I thought it would.
The nurse came back in, as I was in front of the mirror checking myself out, and I told her about how I was worried about looking at myself. She responded with, "do you liked it, are you ok with it?"... I chuckled and said, "If I don't like them can I get some new ones?" π She dropped her head as if she couldn't believe what she said lol. But I made it clear it was ok, and we both had a good little laugh. I really needed that.
Ladies hang in there. There are lots of good times to be had, even through the rough times.
Sending love, hugs, and prayers to all fighting this battle ππ©·π
