How to upgrade powers with essence?

Before this update, you had to go and get all the temples again. But now, you can seemingly upgrade without doing NG+. I’m just not sure how. I have essence but I can’t see a button to upgrade the powers with. I’m surly doing something wrong. I’d appreciate help!
