Got a hug from my yoga teacher today
I’ve decided to take a break from therapy and use the funds to go back to a yoga studio I truly loved. My goal is to re-engage with activities I love in group settings to start building more community around myself, because isolation and loneliness have been huge issues for me lately. I feel like therapy has been exacerbating these feelings, so I want to use my time, energy, and money towards this goal of reconnecting with my passions and hopefully connecting with others.
It’s been about a year and a half. I took a free class last Thursday and the teacher was very welcoming and kind. It was packed to the brim and I ended up in the front of the class, which I’m normally super opposed to, packed in by others, which I normally hate. But this studio has been a safe place for me in the past so I got over it and was able to truly enjoy the class.
I started my membership today and went in for a class taught by the same woman. She greeted me by name and remembered which class I was in and chatted with me about my decision to come back to the studio. During class she offered small adjustments with gentle hands that made me feel very seen and nurtured.
As I was leaving, I thank her for the class and she reached out her arm for a hug. It was very unimposing and natural. Again, it made me feel very seen and cared for.
That’s it, that’s the post. Just very grateful I dragged myself to a class after working a very long and exhausting day, which included me getting cursed out by a middle schooler and having to evacuate kids due to a fire the last 5 minutes of the school day. I almost didn’t go and I’m glad I did.
