What I learned after failing a few prop firm challenges
I’ve gone through a few prop firm challenges now. Failed some, passed one. So I just want to share what actually made a difference for me.
First thing. The rules matter more than your strategy.
I used to focus only on entries. Finding the best setup, best RR, all that. But I kept failing because I didn’t respect daily drawdown and position size properly.
So I changed one thing. I started trading smaller than I wanted.
For example, if I thought 1% risk was fine, I cut it to 0.5%. It felt slow, but I stopped blowing accounts.
Second thing. I stopped forcing trades.
Before, I felt like I had to trade every day to hit the target. That’s how I broke rules. Now I skip days if nothing is clean. It actually helped me stay consistent.
Third. I treat the challenge like risk management test, not profit test.
Most people focus on hitting the target. But the real game is not violating rules. Once I understood that, everything got easier.
And last thing. Don’t trade during bad conditions just because you’re “close” to passing.
I failed one challenge when I was almost at the target. I rushed trades, broke my own rules, and lost it.
So yeah, nothing special here. Just basic stuff that took me a while to accept.
If you’re struggling with challenges, it might not be your strategy. It might be how you manage risk under pressure.
