Adding champs to Jgl hurts not only the role but also them
There was always the problem that Jungle was/is an unpopular role, so Riots newest (they tried it some time ago but with less success etc.) is to make every champion „viable“ in the jgl, so that when your inevitably get filled jgl you can play ur main (unless ur a yuumi player) and there‘s theoretically no problem with that. The problem arises when those champions aren’t compatible with uniqueness of Jgl, it either makes them hyper busted in the role or unplayable in it. Now the champs that are unplayable or not good in jgl are mostly supports, adc and mages, bcs they lack clear speed and ganking pressure, but they aren’t the problem, the problem are the ones that are inherently overpowered in jgl. Azzapp explained it quite well there for example Kayn was deliberately designed to be a Jungler but Qiyana, Zed, Talon, Ambessa where designed with Lane weakness in mind where they supposed to suck early but outscale you as the game goes on and your job is to stop them or set them behind, that’s what makes them balanced, BUT IT LITERALLY DOESN’T EXIST IN JGL! They have no weak early, bcs they farm camps and smite, and they can gank bcs they have Mobility and a slow or cc of some kind. So how do you balance them? That’s the neat part you don’t! Or atleast it’s pretty hard bcs you can’t fck their clear bcs then they just suck but if they have a remotely decent clear they „break“ the game by circumventing their intended weakness!
Another problem arises when these problems aren’t solved or treated right bcs what ends up happening is that either it gets left untreated for too long and it becomes a growing outrage for any who don’t play the champ (Qiyana jgl for example) or Riot nerfs the champ the *normal* way there it often ends up hurting lane more than Jgl and the result is that the champ is still op in jgl but now it suck in lane. That’s when the mains get upset bcs most people that play them in jgl aren’t those mains like riot intended but actual jungle players that seize the opportunity to play a busted champ. So the result is that either everyone suffers at the hands of oppressive champs or the mains suffer at the hands of crossfire nerfs.
And all to make Jungle more fun and to bring people into the jungle, but i honestly think it hurts the role more than it helps… like the current meme is that everyone‘s a jungler, why should i as a lane main have any interest to invest into jgl? If i get fill i can just play my champ… why pick up another jungler if i have my main ready -> which leads to me being oblivious to every intended jungler and their uniqueness! Like if I play jungler i might aswell pick an actual unique jungler like that’s the charm of the role!!! To walk or charge through walls as kayn or Skarner, too be extra hungry for dragons as shyvana, to invade the enemy as Kindred etc.
I genuinely believe that the key to making jungle more fun and engaging is to make the rooster more unique like toplane is for tanks and bruisers, midlane for assassins and mages, adc and support is clear and jungle is for… everything but it allways felt like a unique everything, now it feels just like everything just throw champ xy in it!!!
So anyway, don’t nerf lane bcs jgl is oppressive and don’t make jgl champ pool less unique!
