[M4F] getting ahead with an oral exam

When I started as an academic, teaching freshman intro writing was not where I thought I'd find myself. It's not that I dislike students, and I do find value in getting the younger generations to open their minds to new ideas, but the format creates a drudgery that makes it very "me vs them" as year after year of new 18-19 year olds pass through my classroom.

There are perks, of course. Coeds are admittedly easy on the eyes, and I can convince some of them to have some extensive one on one writing sessions. Generally I just keep it there, but sometimes a student really pushes to contact me on IG and I find myself lurking a bit too long.

Frankly, it's gotten worse since my divorce last year and hearing some grim news about the department's future this year. I am definitely a bit sloppier, nothing anyone has called my department chair about but I have heard that there may be rumors going around.

And honestly, I think some of the women in class are encouraging it. There are a couple students who have started being much more diligent about my office hours, eager to find ways to improve their grades, and willing to dress to, ahem, impress.

Something finally shook loose one session, when you were going on and on about how she needed a good grade in this course or your parents were going to cancel your big spring break trip that I muttered out my intrusive thought: "there are better ways to use your mouth to earn an A than this"

Time froze. You looked shocked, and I started to profusely apologize. You looked back at the door to my office, making sure it was closed, and turned back, wicked smile on your face.
