I lashed out on my manager.

I’m not going to make this very long but I just want to know if anyone else feels the same way I do. I love my current manager, she is the 5th since I’ve been here for 4 years. When I first got the job here I adored it, but I’ve never been a fan of UPT & pushing sales as hard as they want us to because I also worked in car sales, I’ve worked in a handful of stores that were sale-focused. But I have NEVER dealt with the shit I’ve dealt with in this store. The lengths they want us to go to make sales is damn near harassment and customers are ANNOYED! I stopped doing that shit.

My store went without a manager for over 1 year when ours left one day and never came back, no warning. We had mostly new employees except for me, I was doing EVERYTHING. I was working 40 hours a week, training the people the manager just hired before she dipped, doing literally everything except CREATING the schedule but every single week I would have to tweak it anyways because the person making our schedule never paid any mind to anyone’s availability. I single handedly kept that store open and I am 100% certain that if I quit any point in time in that year, that store would’ve been closed. I ran that store with 4 employees including me. But I never saw any benefits from this, nada damn thing. Not a damn dollar.

Anyways, fast forward to now with the new manager. She’s awesome she’s amazing I love her. It’s not her, it’s the company. I trained this manager on everything store level btw. Recently, she pulled me and was telling me that I need to engage more with customers because I “wait for them instead of initiating”. Which yes I do, I offer help when they walk in the door, I offer help one more time while they’re shopping, and then I leave them alone, but I’m not shoving shit in their hands and bothering these people. She then went on and was talking about her bonus and our sales and I snapped because this is probably the 3rd time she has came to me about sales and UPT even tho my sales are beyond all the other employees because I WORK THE MOST. I told her I wasn’t doing anything extra beyond my pay because as long as I’ve been with this company, my pay doesn’t match my work & for as long as I’m not seeing any extra money for making people buy shit to make YOUR pockets fatter? I’m not doin it. Bc if I do the work and make sales goals while managers and DMs sit on their ass, and THEY see more money because I made more sales, fuck that shit. If you want more money on your bonus then YOU go make the money and do the damn WORK! I told her anything in this store you want done, I’ll get it done. But im done socially exhausting myself and worrying about these god for fucking bidden numbers and told her verbatim that I would rather her fire me right there on the spot than harass one more customer ever. I will recommend items all day long when the opportunity presents itself like if someone wants the help, but I’m not going out of my way for people who wanna be left alone.
