Construction noise
Moved from the UK to Sydney in November and have been having so many issues with construction. Not sure on the laws here so looking for some advice.
Moved into an apartment block with about 7 other flats.
Shortly after we moved in one of our neighbours let us know that the unit next to ours (that shares a wall) will be undergoing some construction. Our landlord/estate agent did not inform us of this before we signed the lease otherwise we probably wouldn't have moved here.
For the last few months we have endured jackhammering, drilling, banging etc all starting at 7am sharp. We were only given notice of this once and it has been on and off for weeks. Sometimes happening all week and then nothing for awhile.
My partner and I both work from home and the noise has been very disruptive. We have often had to leave for the entire day. Additionally I have a chronic illness that flares up when I don't get enough sleep, so I have also been getting sick and struggling to live my life normally as a result.
Is there anything we can do?
The apartment next to us is not owned by the same landlord as our apartment - and we have only just managed to get in contact with the owner who has apologised but said there will be ongoing works for several more weeks.
Any way we could move out without having to pay to break our lease? No one wants to take responsibility but it's severely negatively impacting us and we have reached our limit in afraid.
