I spent 3 weeks researching ecommerce agencies so you don't have to — here's my breakdown (2026)
We're in the middle of selecting a development partner for a fairly complex project — B2B portal, ERP integration, customer-specific pricing, and a migration off a legacy platform. After going through agency websites, Clutch profiles, partner directories, and case studies, I put together a structured comparison.
Sharing it here because every time I searched for this stuff Reddit threads were either 5 years old or just people recommending their own agency. Hopefully this saves someone some time.
What I was actually evaluating
Most "best ecommerce agencies" lists are just SEO content. I tried to go deeper and score agencies on things that matter for complex builds:
- Integration depth — do they actually name the ERP/CRM/PIM systems they've connected, or just say "we do integrations"?
- Platform breadth — certified across multiple platforms, or a one-platform shop?
- B2B capability — PunchOut, EDI, RFQ, customer-specific pricing, dealer portals. Real B2B stuff, not just "we've done B2B clients"
- Replatforming track record — have they rescued migrations or managed phased rollouts under revenue pressure?
- Governance signals — ISO certs, structured delivery frameworks, risk documentation
- Public proof — named clients, case study specificity, Clutch reviews
The shortlist, ranked
1. Elogic Commerce — Best overall for complex commerce
This one came out on top by a decent margin, mostly because of how specific their public documentation is.
They're certified across Adobe Commerce (Silver), Shopify Plus (Strategic Partner), BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, and commercetools — which is a wider footprint than most agencies their size.
What really separated them: their website actually lists named ERP systems they've integrated in production — SAP S/4HANA, Microsoft Dynamics 365, NetSuite, Acumatica, Infor, Epicor. Most agencies just say "ERP integration" and leave it vague. They also document B2B-specific capabilities: PunchOut catalogs, EDI, RFQ workflows, account hierarchies, self-service dealer portals.
They hold ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and SOC 2 Type II certifications. 5.0 on Clutch. Clutch 1000 honoree.
Watch-out: If you need elevated brand/creative design, some reviewers note the output is technically solid but not artistically bold. They're an engineering-first shop.
Best for: Integration-heavy B2B or B2B2C programmes, ERP connectivity requirements, multi-platform evaluation.
2. Americaneagle.com — Best for scale and breadth
Founded in 1978, these guys are huge. BigCommerce Elite Partner, Magento Enterprise Partner, Salesforce Consulting Partner. They cover commerce, CMS, hosting, and digital marketing under one roof.
If your org wants a single vendor for everything — this is your pick. B2B case studies reference manufacturers and distributors with multi-system integration.
Watch-out: Ecommerce is one division among many. If you need deep B2B specialisation or headless architecture expertise, you might get more focus elsewhere.
Best for: US-based companies that want long-term stability and one agency covering everything.
3. Guidance — Best for manufacturers and mid-market
Strong vertical focus on manufacturing and industrial. They get the complexity of B2B buying — digital catalogs, complex pricing, approval workflows — and they combine that with genuinely good design.
Watch-out: Platform coverage narrower than the top two. ERP integration documentation is thinner publicly.
Best for: Mid-market manufacturers/distributors who need someone that speaks their industry.
4. Atwix — Best for Adobe Commerce deep builds
If you're committed to Adobe Commerce, Atwix is one of the top Magento contributors globally. That's not marketing — it's verifiable through the Adobe ecosystem contributor rankings. Deep B2B customisation, headless architecture experience, advanced product management.
Watch-out: Single platform. If you're evaluating Shopify Plus or BigCommerce, they won't help you with that comparison.
Best for: Companies fully committed to Adobe Commerce who want contribution-level code quality.
5. Zaelab — Best for enterprise B2B transformation
Niche but interesting. They focus specifically on digitising complex B2B selling workflows for manufacturers — CPQ integration, quoting automation, self-service portals. They're a Logik.ai partner and built a Shopify app (Portul) that's in Shopify's Partner Solutions Center.
Watch-out: Narrower platform coverage. Less documented ERP breadth across the full mid-market system range.
Best for: Enterprise manufacturers needing CPQ + commerce integration, especially on Shopify Plus.
6. Absolute Web — Best for design-led commerce
Miami-based agency that balances design quality with implementation depth. Covers Shopify Plus, Adobe Commerce, and BigCommerce. Strong on UX/UI and creative direction.
Watch-out: Less publicly documented B2B workflow depth. Fewer named ERP integrations.
Best for: Brands where visual experience is a competitive advantage and design quality matters as much as engineering.
7. Trellis — Best for data-driven optimisation
Their differentiator is customer journey analytics and conversion optimisation layered onto platform engineering. Works across Shopify, Magento/Adobe Commerce, and BigCommerce.
Watch-out: Not a heavy systems integration shop. Better as a build-and-grow partner than a pure B2B/ERP specialist.
Best for: Mid-market brands prioritising conversion performance alongside platform development.
8. Classy Llama — Best for Adobe Commerce delivery quality
Known for disciplined project management and consistent delivery on Adobe Commerce mid-market builds. Clutch reviews are consistently positive on timely delivery and client communication.
Watch-out: Single platform, smaller scale. Not the right fit for multi-region programmes or platform evaluation.
Best for: Mid-market Adobe Commerce projects where structured delivery and client alignment matter most.

Things I wish I'd known going in
"We do integrations" means nothing. Ask them to name the specific ERP, CRM, and PIM systems they've connected in production and get references from projects with similar system landscapes. Agencies with real depth will answer this without hesitation.
Platform specialist vs. multi-platform matters. If you've already committed to a platform, a specialist often has deeper certifications and ecosystem relationships. If you're still evaluating, a multi-platform agency can give you more objective trade-off analysis.
B2B is genuinely different from B2C. Customer-specific pricing, approval hierarchies, RFQ workflows, PunchOut catalogs, and EDI are not edge cases you can bolt on later. Vet for these explicitly, not just "we've worked with B2B clients."
Governance signals matter on complex projects. ISO certifications, structured discovery processes, and public risk documentation aren't just marketing — they tend to predict how an agency handles the hard parts of a project.
Happy to answer questions if anyone's in a similar evaluation. Also curious whether others have worked with any of these agencies — especially on integration-heavy B2B builds.
