Legal Advice

I need help for my mom's case.
She had a car accident in 2021 and hired a lawyer.

She was told she would receive two payments, one was decided over in court about two years ago. The lawyer told her she would receive a 6 digit amount, then over the phone, he told her a 5 digit amount. The lawyer didn't notify her of the court date. After court happened, he informed her that everything was ready for her to go in the office and sign a paper that says she received her payment. This payment ended up being a 4 digit amount. She made the mistake of signing it. But also, this lawyer was very pushy and even yelled at her.

Now she is suppose to receive her second payment. And this time my mom is telling this lawyer that she won't sign any paper if it's not an official one from court that indicates the actual amount that was settled with the judge. Because last time it was a paper done by the lawyer, no official document was shown to her. This lawyer is refusing to show her, saying that this document is "not necessary", he has been pushy over the phone, insisting for her to go in the office and sign.

I went to the court a few days ago with her, and asked if we could have any information on this. One person helped us out printing what she found in the system, and the latest document she could find was from January 2025 saying that the lawyer and her have made an "amicable agreement" and that the case is settled. My mom did not have a conversation concluding this with this lawyer at any moment.

Since all of this seems unethical, I called the american bar association of the state we live in, and they told me they do not give legal advice, but they gave me the phone number of the office of law ethics, saying that maybe they could help me out. I gave them a call, and got the same answer, they do not give any legal advice, but said that my mom could file a claim against this lawyer, but he would no longer have to be involved in her case if she makes that decision.

What could we do? Isn't he required by law to show her the official document? I tried reaching out to these places that haven't been able to help, is there any other place that could help us resolve this? Anyone else has had an experience similar to this one?
