Advice on fence location
Hi team,
We are having a cedar fence installed in the next month and are debating how much of our property to fence in. Here are the the two options we're considering:
-
Have the fence wrap around our gravel patio all the way to the front of the house then end right where our neighbor's fence sits. This option will allow both our front and back doors to be fenced in. This is the option with the blue lines in the aerial view.
-
Have the fence terminate right where our front porch starts. This will fence in our gravel patio and our side yard (which is the only flat section of grass). This is the option with the red lines.
Some other background info:
- We're planning on a 4-foot cedar fence to contain our toddler and give us a bit more privacy, at least around the gravel patio at the back of the house.
- We're having gates installed at the driveway in back, at the steps to the sidewalk on the side, and one gate towards the front of the house. Depending on the option we'll put the gate across the front steps or just towards the porch (for Option 2).
- An outdoor couch, fire pit, and large umbrella will go on the gravel patio in the back. A 4 foot fence gives a bit of privacy when sitting on the patio but still allows us to see our neighbors / talk to people etc. We'll also plant some shrubs for additional privacy without making it feel completely walled in.
We originally planned on option 2 (smaller fenced area) but are starting to think a fence that wraps around the entire house will look nicer and be more useful as both doors will be enclosed.
Any thoughts or opinions would be much appreciated!
