Engineering to Librarian in Western Australia

Degrees/Education

Hi guys. I've recently graduated from an engineering degree and working full time as a graduate engineer in Australia. I'm kind of stuck because I don't think I've ever enjoyed engineering and being in the job right now is making me see that even more. I think I've always like to help people and loved the environment of a library since I was young.

I really want to make the transition to being a librarian. I know it suits me more. but I don't know if that's the best decision financially and for the future. I'm looking to see if there are any pathways to being a librarian but I'm seeing alot of Master degrees that would cost $20k . I'm wondering if there are any other pathways I can take to becoming a librarian? is there an online degree I can do part time while working? or a tafe cert? I want to be able to feel secure financially before making the immediate move. But I want to make my way there so I can always have the option to do something that makes me feel happier when that time comes.

This may be a little bit too personal to ask but I want to know how librarians here feel, do you guys think you make a comfortable amount for your lifestyle? As things get more and more expensive, and buying a house is so difficult, I want to know what I'll need to face if I make the switch.

I genuinely feel like I'll be able to help more people as a librarian. I feel like I would be a lot more fulfilled and it's a job that will emphasize my skills. but I can't just think about that as living gets tougher each day with financial struggles.

Thank you to everyone who leaves a comment.
