What does proactive IT actually mean in practice?
The term gets thrown around a lot but what does proactive IT ops actually look like day to day?
From what we've seen it comes down to three things:
- Visibility: knowing your full IT footprint at any given moment, not just the devices that are loud about having problems
- Detection: catching anomalies before they become incidents
- Automation: having standardized workflows that respond to issues the same way every time, removing the dependency on tribal knowledge
The gap between teams that are truly proactive vs. teams that just say they are usually comes down to #3. Workflows that are repeatable regardless of who's on shift.
What would you add to this list? Curious what proactive means to others in practice.
