STEM OPT expiring, please help!
Hi everyone,
I’m currently on an F-1 visa, with STEM OPT expiring in Nov 2026, and I’m trying to plan my next steps to continue working in the U.S.
FYI — I wasn’t selected in the H-1B lottery (third attempt), so I’m exploring alternative paths now.
I’d really appreciate guidance on:
• What are the realistic work extension options after F-1?
• I’m considering doing a second master’s — what visa/status would that fall under?
• If I go for a second master’s:
• Will I still be eligible for OPT or STEM OPT again?
• Can I work using CPT during the program?
• What are the key requirements I need to meet before Nov 2026 to avoid status issues?
• Any recommendations for universities/programs that are good for this path?
• What should I watch out for when choosing programs (especially regarding CPT, visa risks, or long-term outcomes)?
Would really appreciate insights from people who’ve been through this or understand the system well.
Thanks in advance!
