Squishy D.Va: The 1.5 seconds to think about baby D.Va's escape route
For a brief moment as your Meka writhes from 0 health you are invulnurable. Additionally you get a free jump towards any direction as you exit.
As a casually competitive D.Va main this is pretty essential to my playstyle and I feel it isn't discussed enough in the meta.
When I first started competitive, my baby d.va was frustrated. I would play stubbornly, trying to force her blaster to do more damage than it realistically could, assuming the best case to be a revenge kill and a quick death.
Now instead of "accepting my fate" and trading baby D.Va's life for 1/2 a mag of blaster damage, I make split-second strategies around evasiveness.
Can I jump those boxes at the Havana Flashpoint?
I can crouch behind the cars in Mid-Town.
Can I drop into the tunntunnels at Runasapi?
The transition is definitely a cool part of the hero and can contribute to different playstyles.
Some more Baby D.va evasion tips:
If they're shooting from 90° angle high ground (think rooftops in Paraiso), running towards the bottom of that structure will make them completely vertical from you and ruin their angle.
1v1 enemies tend to assume baby D.va is always an easy kill. You can use this to your advantage and rope them into your Flankers.
Learn how to run backwards.
Prioritize range over damage. A good portion of the hero roster can't shoot the same distance as D.va's blaster.
