Sage is up to no good
This season we’ve gotten a few key details that I think will set up the end up the show and already have in a sense.
-First thing is Homelander’s constant references to Caesar. Ashley has also stated the government is against Homelander but unable to take any action since they can’t do anything to neutralize him. In the end we know it will be some combination of Supes to take him down by stabbing him in the back (metaphorically).
-Second thing is Sage’s newfound enjoyment of being at the top of the hierarchy. She enjoys the power she commands and has developed a taste for it. I highly doubt she will be satisfied being Homelander’s number 3, since he intends to make Soldier Boy his number 2 out of nepotism.
-Third and most important thing, New Noir’s new behavior. The dude is NOT alright. He is doing some shady shit and doing it at the behest of Sage. Some clues that I think point to this are Homelander asking Sage if she is still giving herself recreational brain damage. Sage knows how to do this to herself and she’s smart enough to figure out how to do it to someone else.
We already know that New Noir is actually quite powerful but was held back by the fact that he was an actor and not necessarily a practicing super hero. Noir is able to fly and powerful enough to tank a minigun without any damage as well as be strong enough to join the Seven, so he is on the higher end of the superhero rankings.
Sage is also smart enough to enhance Noir or weaken Homelander with a virus. If Sameer is able to create a Supe Virus, then Sage should be able to as well.
So my theory is that Sage has lobotomized New Noir and he is the going to be the key to her plan to finally be the Brutus to stab Caesar in the back. We know she knows how to do a lobotomy, she’s ambitious, and she knows Homelander is unstable and will destroy himself given time.
Whatever Sage is planning, New Noir will be central to it.
