The best ecommerce development companies for complex builds in 2026 (methodology included)

Source: https://best-ecommerce-development-companies.com/

Been through a long vendor selection process recently for a B2B ecommerce project — ERP integration, customer-specific pricing, multi-store setup. Every "best ecommerce agencies" article I found was either sponsored garbage or hadn't been updated since 2022.

So I did my own research. Evaluated companies against a consistent set of criteria using only public sources — official websites, platform partner directories (Adobe, Shopify, Salesforce, BigCommerce), Clutch profiles, and published case studies. No agency paid to be on this list.

Sharing the full breakdown here. Long post, but hopefully useful if you're in a similar position.

How I scored them

I didn't just look at who has the flashiest website. Six dimensions, weighted toward what actually matters for complex builds:

  1. Platform certifications — partner tier levels, not just "we work with Shopify"
  2. Integration capability — named ERP/CRM/PIM systems they've actually connected in production
  3. B2B workflow complexity — customer-specific pricing, PunchOut/cXML, approval hierarchies, dealer portals
  4. Delivery governance — structured discovery, milestone tracking, QA, change management
  5. Public proof density — quality of case studies, Clutch reviews, named client references
  6. Commerce focus — is ecommerce their core business, or one of fifteen service lines?

That last one matters more than people think. Agencies that also do branding, SEO, mobile apps, and social media tend to have diluted engineering capacity.

The ranked list

#1 — Elogic Commerce

This one stood out the most, and it's not particularly close on the criteria I was using.

Why they ranked first:

Commerce is explicitly their only thing — official materials say they don't do mobile apps, marketing, or generic IT outsourcing. That engineering focus shows in what they publicly document.

Platform coverage is genuinely broad: Adobe Commerce Silver Partner, Shopify Plus Strategic Partner, BigCommerce Partner, Salesforce Commerce Cloud AppExchange Partner, commercetools, and Hyvä Bronze Partner. That's enough cross-platform depth to give you an actual unbiased recommendation rather than selling you on whatever they're best at.

Where they really separate: their website actually names the ERP systems they've integrated in production. SAP S/4HANA, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Infor, Epicor, Acumatica. Most agencies say "we do ERP integrations" and leave it completely vague. Naming systems is a signal of actual depth.

B2B documentation is specific too — PunchOut/cXML, customer-specific pricing, account hierarchies, approval workflows, self-service dealer portals. Not just "we've done B2B clients."

Certifications: ISO 27001, ISO 9001, SOC 2 Type II. 5.0 on Clutch. Clutch 1000 honoree.

Watch-out: They position themselves for mid-market and enterprise complexity. If you're building a straightforward D2C store with no integrations, they're probably overkill.

#2 — Corra (Publicis Sapient)

Strong Adobe Commerce pedigree — Gold Partner, Adobe Commerce Partner of the Year (North America). Also delivers on Shopify Plus and has documented MACH/composable implementations.

Got acquired by Publicis Sapient, which adds global delivery scale but also means you're now dealing with a large consultancy structure. Worth confirming you'll be staffed by Corra's commerce specialists and not rotated through a generic delivery bench.

Best for: D2C and retail brands, headless/composable builds, organisations that want access to a global consultancy network alongside commerce engineering.

Watch-out: Mid-market B2B buyers may find the engagement model skewed toward enterprise accounts.

#3 — Classy Llama

Long-standing Adobe Commerce shop — they've been doing Magento since the early days. Expanded into BigCommerce and Shopify. Known for strong project management discipline and particularly deep experience with manufacturers, distributors, and automotive parts merchants (they've built proprietary fitment extensions for ACES/PIES data standards, which is niche but valuable if that's your world).

Publicly documented ERP connectivity, PIM implementations (Akeneo, Pimcore), and B2B portal work.

Best for: Mid-market manufacturers/distributors on Adobe Commerce or BigCommerce, automotive and industrial merchants with large catalogs.

Watch-out: Primarily US-based. Salesforce Commerce Cloud and composable-first architectures aren't prominently documented.

#4 — BORN Group (Tech Mahindra)

Enterprise tier. Adobe Platinum Partner, Salesforce Platinum Partner. They've got documented SAP Commerce delivery experience, which is rare and valuable if that's your platform. Part of Tech Mahindra now, so global delivery footprint is there.

Watch-out: Commerce engineering sits within a broader creative and content agency structure. If you need a pure engineering partner, confirm specifically how the team is composed.

#5 — Ranosys

Adobe Gold Partner and Salesforce Crest (Gold) Partner — solid dual-ecosystem coverage. Publicly references enterprise clients like Skechers, Panasonic, and Nespresso. Strong APAC presence. Also delivers on commercetools.

Best for: Enterprise brands needing Adobe Commerce or Salesforce Commerce Cloud, APAC-headquartered companies.

Watch-out: Deep B2B workflow complexity (PunchOut, complex account hierarchies) is less prominently documented than their D2C work.

#6 — Absolute Web

One of the longest-running ecommerce agencies in the US — founded 1999. Primary strength is Shopify Plus, with Adobe Commerce and BigCommerce capability. Good documented track record on D2C migrations to Shopify Plus. Integration work spans NetSuite, CRM, payment gateways, and fulfilment systems.

Best for: Mid-market D2C brands migrating to Shopify Plus, US-based merchants who value timezone alignment.

Watch-out: Complex B2B workflow engineering needs validation before engaging. Composable/MACH not prominently documented.

#7 — IWD Agency

The differentiator here is NetSuite integration depth across multiple platforms — they've built cross-platform NetSuite connectors for Shopify, BigCommerce, and Adobe Commerce. Niche but genuinely useful if NetSuite is your ERP backbone and you're evaluating or switching platforms.

Best for: NetSuite-running merchants who need deep ERP integration with their commerce platform.

Watch-out: Less public documentation on large-scale global deployments.

#8 — Rave Digital

Holds both Adobe Solution Partner (Bronze) and Adobe Technology Partner (Silver) status — the tech partner tier means they build extensions for the Adobe Commerce ecosystem, not just client implementations. Published case materials reference wholesale distribution projects with account-based pricing and ERP integration.

Best for: Mid-market B2B/B2C merchants on Adobe Commerce, wholesale distributors needing account-based functionality.

Watch-out: Multi-platform breadth is limited. Composable architecture not prominently featured.

#9 — Magneto IT Solutions

Well-reviewed Clutch profile, works across Adobe Commerce, Shopify, and BigCommerce. Emphasises data-led implementation and composable approaches. Cost-effective delivery model.

Best for: B2C/D2C merchants needing full-cycle development on a managed budget.

Watch-out: Deep B2B workflow complexity is less documented. Verify specific enterprise references for complex B2B projects.

The questions I'd ask any agency before shortlisting

On integrations: "Name the specific ERP, CRM, and PIM systems you've connected in production. Can you give us a reference from a project with a similar system landscape?"

Agencies with real integration depth answer this without hesitation. Agencies without it will start talking about APIs generically.

On B2B: "Walk me through a customer-specific pricing or approval workflow you've delivered. What platform was it on, what was the ERP, and what were the edge cases?"

On delivery: "What does your discovery process look like? How do you handle scope changes mid-project? What's your QA process for integration testing?"

On post-launch: "What's your managed services model? What SLAs do you offer?"

A few things I'd do differently if starting over

Don't conflate platform certifications with actual capability. Certifications indicate investment — they don't guarantee production delivery quality. Ask for references on similar projects.

Scope your integrations before you talk to agencies. Know which ERP, PIM, and CRM systems are in scope before conversations start. It saves a lot of time and filters out agencies that aren't actually equipped.

Check if ecommerce is their core business. An agency that also does brand campaigns, social media, and mobile apps is splitting engineering capacity in ways that don't always serve complex commerce builds.

Ask who specifically will work on your project. At larger agencies especially, the team that pitches you and the team that builds your store can be very different groups.

Happy to answer questions. Also interested in hearing from anyone who has worked with these agencies directly — especially on B2B builds or ERP integration projects.
