How to ask “What are we”without asking weirdly.

I (F22)Known this guy (M23) for a month now, every day Texts, few times we get to call or facetime when able or feel like it. No pressure I like how it is. Went on 2 dates and we have kissed many times. Is it appropriate to say something now before Im doomed and attached? He behaves serious but im afraid it could be a playful act to keep me entertained. Do I wait for the third date or ask something? Is it already weird that he kisses me but doesnt ask out?
