Nervous about cutting overnight pump sessions

Support Needed

Hi all. I'm a FTM to a nearly 4-month old. He had a poor latch from birth and didn't transfer milk well, so until about a month ago I was primarily a pumper, with an attempt at nursing every day in case things got better. I'm the past month we have been fortunate to make a comeback to nursing through a tongue tie reversal and a lot of practice.

Currently, my little guy nurses from about 6 am until his second to last feed of the day. He gets a bottle of pumped breastmilk before bed, and formula overnight, so that dad and I don't have to traipse downstairs to the fridge for BM. The reason we bottle feed him overnight is to make sure that he's getting a good big meal before bed and overnight to reduce the chance he'll wake up ravenous and angry.

This means of course that I have to pump 2x to replace those feeds. I absolutely hate this. I'm ready to be done pumping. I'd like to nurse the little guy before bed and overnight but I can't shake my worry that he will want more to eat than I can provide.

Currently, he drinks about 150ml before bed, and my pump after he goes to bed is only 120. Overnight he tends to take 150ml, and my 2 am pump is usually between 160 and 200ml.

I think I need some reassurance from the community that I can do it. I was very, very shaken up by the feeling of not being able to provide for him in the early days when he wasn't latching or transferring milk well. I'm scared to put us in a position where I revisit that feeling. Any suggestions or encouragement would be appreciated. 🤍
