Capture card only showing color bars

I'm trying to record switch gameplay, so I got a capture card. I got the right cords and things and it's still not working. the only thing I can think would be a problem is that the HDMI cord barely doesn't go in all the way to the capture card.

the capture card I'm using is guermok and is 3.0

Ive tried restarting things and such, but I don't know what else I could do to troubleshoot it.
