Sent here from another subreddit because of my symptoms- looking for info from those familiar with the condition

Discussion

First post here, hoping for some insight.

I have a lot of various health issues and have been working the past 2 years to find some answers. I came across HSD early on but dismissed it after some cursory research.

But recently in another subreddit I was directed here after mentioning some symptoms so I gave it another look. I still don’t know that I have enough of the actual joint symptoms but all the accompanying ones I do have.

So now I’m just trying to learn what I can and see if it’s worth bringing up to my doctor or PT.

The basics-

I (33F) was never considered “double jointed” or didn’t do weird tricks to dislocate joints or anything like that as a kid. I was pretty flexible especially through the hips but always just chalked that up to being a dancer for 15 years. My fingers or thumbs don’t bend beyond normal, I cannot put my palms flat on the floor (though I could do that as a kid), I do have weird elbows that point inward when my arms are straightened and I can do the namaste behind my back. I didn’t think I’ve ever dislocated something (though currently rethinking this). I score pretty low on the Beighton test.

My symptoms-

(1) Severe chronic hip pain-

Pain has been there for years but steadily gotten worse once I hit 30. There’s several different “types” of pain, and the severity varies from about a 4 on my best days to an 8/9 on my worst. One type of pain I get is an intense deep pinching sensation right near the joint.

I also get this sharper pain and with that it often feels like the hip is catching, stuck or not aligned properly. When it’s like this it hurts to step with that side. Sometimes I can crack the offending side or I manipulate it until it feels “unstuck”. This happens on both sides, but one side is more frequent.

I also have a deep aching pain in my hips (this is the worst kind). It’s all over pretty much my entire pelvic cradle but worst at the side and near the joints. I have this pain pretty much 24/7 but the severity does vary. Bad flare days I’m at about a 8 or 9 pain level and feel like curling up and crying. Walking, standing, sitting, lying down, everything is agony.

I expected X-rays to show osteoporosis or some other type of arthritis. They didn’t. I also suspected hip impingements to explain the catching, MRIs/Xray showed no impingement. I do have small frayed spots in both labrum (2 left, 1 right), but my doctors do not think those are enough to cause the type/severity of pain. I’ve been doing PT for that for 5 weeks with no improvement, and cortisone shots really didn’t help the pain.

I am wondering if that catching and cracking I’ve been doing is actually some type of subluxation.

(2) Chronic migraines

Had these my whole life, abdominal ones as a kid, regular ones starting at puberty. But they are getting more frequent.

(3) Symptoms of Dysatonomia/POTS

Not officially diagnosed as it seems doctors in my area don’t taking this seriously. Dizziness, nausea, vertigo, issues with changing positions to fast, temperature dysregularion, severe fatigue, brain fog, exercise intolerance

(4) GI issues

Mostly of the slow motility variety. Everything in my digestive system moves very slow, I’m super sensitive to large amount of fiber, so constipation can be a major issue. Still trying to get my insurance to over a gastric emptying test, but X-rays showed no blockages or anything obstruction digestion. It’s just slow.

(5) Skin

I bruise so easily it’s ridiculous. A tiny bump will leave a deep blue bruise for a week. I also seem to get skin abrasions often. I don’t seem to have abnormal scarring from recent injuries but the injuries I sustained as a kid. I used to call these spots my old lady skin.

(6) Extreme Fatigue

No amount of rest helps, no amount of sleep helps, no supplements helps. I’m struggling to manage my day to day life. I have a relatively easy job, no kids, no partner. Just me and my dog, my life is simple and the level of extreme fatigue doesn’t match up.

Some other things of note-

I’ve done a lot of bloodwork with nothing much notable. Tested all the usual CBC, Metabolic panel, vitamin and electrolytes panel, ferritin and iron saturation (this are on the low side of normal), CRP, RF test

I am diagnosed ADHD and anxiety. Apparently there’s a lot of comorbidity.

Seems unlikely relevant but apparently the way I hold my writing utensils is super common for HSD.

Joint wise I have had issues with my shoulders in the past too. Mostly when I was a dance/acrobatics instructor and when I was a dancer/tumbler.

*not looking for medical advice or anyone to try and diagnose me, just sort of general information. I see my doctor in a few weeks and will mention it to her. Just wondering if I’m way off the mark here and grasping at straws.*
