4+ Years in Data Science, 100+ Interviews, Still No Job — Is This Field Still Worth It in India?

I need some honest career advice from people working in Data Science / AI / ML in India.

I’ve spent more than 4 years in this field, with 3+ years of professional experience. But for the past few months, I’ve been going through a really difficult phase.

My last working day was in October 2025. Since then, I’ve been actively applying and interviewing — I’ve given 100+ interviews so far — but I’m still struggling to land a stable role.

I even joined one company recently, but within 2 weeks I was asked to resign during probation, citing “performance issues” without any clear or specific feedback. That experience affected my confidence quite a bit.

Now I’m genuinely confused and need clarity:

Is Data Science / AI / ML still a stable and worthwhile career in India right now?

Has the market shifted toward very specific skill sets (like backend + AI, GenAI, etc.)?

Are companies expecting more “engineering” skills rather than just ML knowledge?

Should someone with my experience continue in this field and pivot, or consider switching completely (for example, Full Stack)?

I’m not looking for sympathy — just honest insights from people who are currently working in the industry.

If you’ve gone through a similar phase and managed to recover, I’d really appreciate hearing what worked for you.
