Just diagnosed with SIADH on top of my epilepsy, feeling scared and overwhelmed

Support wanted

Hey everyone.

When I was around 14, I started having tonic clonic seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy. Got put on oxcarbazepine which totally controlled them. Back in February, after a routine blood test, I got a call a few days later from my doctor telling me that my sodium was low, that I could go into heart failure and die, and that I needed to go to the ER immediately. Did a bunch of tests and everything was normal other than the low sodium. The ER doctor also said my sodium was not nearly low enough to cause serious issues, and that my doctor had overreacted. Thanks doc. Several more blood tests and urine tests later, my doctor just diagnosed me with SIADH and told me to restrict my fluid intake to 2 liters a day. This is most likely due to my epilepsy medication.

The thing is, ive been taken it since I was around 15 and it works. I haven't had a seizure in over a decade. I dont want to have to go off this medication because it works so well, and im horrified of having seizures again because ill lose my license, and in turn, lose everything ive worked so hard to get for myself.

Now, I guess im just scared. I have severe OCD and health anxiety, and this is like my worst case scenario. Im horrified that im going to suddenly die from this. Im stuck in my head constantly, wondering what the future will hold. I keep telling myself im probably going to be the first to die out of my group of friends.

I guess I just want to vent. Its so scary not knowing what exactly is going on in my body, and how bad it really is. I have more tests coming up, and a neuro appointment, and I just feel so mentally exhausted. I dont know anyone else who has ever dealt with anything like this, and it feels so isolating. 2026 has sucked so far.

If you've read this far, thank you. Just looking for some support and advice on how to deal with the mental side of chronic health issues.
