Why limit/regulate Airbnb rentals during the World Cup?

Local News đź“°

I read in HG that Hoboken is considering regulations trying to limit Airbnb rentals during the World Cup. Other neighboring towns such as Jersey City have regulations.

I don’t understand why. It seems like a solution that’s looking for a problem.

Are we afraid of outsiders coming in town, getting drunk and making a mess? That’s been happening well before Airbnb was invented.

Demand for accommodations will be high during the World Cup and Hoboken is a desirable place for people coming in town to stay, as it is a place to party and is reasonably close to the stadium.

The way I see it, Hoboken is already way over regulated and anti-business. It’s one of my least favorite aspects about this town and I wish it would change. Too much red tape. If someone wants to make some extra money and rent their place out, they should have the right to. It’s capitalism. Why should local government tell us we can’t? FTR, I’m not planning on renting my place out, but have no problem if others do.
