How do large concerts manage crowd entry without everything turning into chaos?

I’ve been wondering about this after attending a few bigger concerts recently.

It feels like most people tend to arrive at almost the same time, especially closer to when the show starts. And somehow, some events handle it pretty smoothly… while others end up with long lines and overcrowded entrances.

I’ve seen mentions of things like digital ticketing, queue systems, and contactless check-ins (QR, NFC, etc.), but I’m not sure how much of a difference they actually make in practice.

For those who’ve worked on events or behind the scenes:

  • What actually helps keep entry organized when thousands of people show up at once?
  • Is it mostly about the tech being used, or more about planning and crowd management?
  • Have you seen cases where “modern systems” didn’t really solve the problem?

Genuinely curious how this is handled at scale, because from the outside it looks like a logistical nightmare.
