Lirin and Grandmother V

If you know these characters well enough to recognize them by name, nothing here should be a spoiler.

I commened something like this on a comment in r/stormlightarchieve but it seemed more appropriate as its own post.

The parallels between Wax's Terri's grandmother and Kaladin's surgeon father make me wonder if there was an insufferable pacifist anti-authoritarian authority figure in young Sanderson's lineage somewhere. Or maybe he just liked the themes and character dynamic so much he accidentally wrote it twice.

Both characters represent the mentor qualities of moral legacy and inherited skills while ALSO being forces of childhood isolation and actively opposing the protagonists' chosen journeys and uses of power.

In Wax's case, legacy is more about biological heritage and with Linin it's more about about skills, education, and ideals. They also read as uniquely textured characters if that makes sense and feel more aggrivating, almost like real family members.

Are there other connections or similar parallels? What are other ways that the foil dynamics contribute to character growth and thematic development?
