Looking for help for my partner
Hello y’all. Appreciate any advice.
So here’s the deal. We had our child about 16 months ago. She had a fairly physically traumatic delivery - going to finally have a shot for the pain she continues to deal with, a surgery is still on the table for discussion, etc.
She’s dealing with a lot of self-image/body issues, doesn’t like the way anything looks on her, hates the advice from others about leggings being a godsend during this time (personally I think she looks great in leggings, of course). Feels like her proportions are now all out of whack and doesn’t know what to do.
She was very petite, and now in all ways just feels sort of “dumpy”, if I could sum it up in a word. She sort of spins out in these “what’s the point of even trying”, but then still tries, but doesn’t like what she’s sees when she does, rinse and repeat cycles.
I look at her and see the same girl, now with all the extra care that I have for her as the mother of my child.
I just have no idea where to point her to. She’s on a Facebook mom’s group, but she’s not exactly “Facebook mom” demographic (research scientist-turned-tech employee, everywhere she went she’d get asked about her style/if she was a musician or something, if that gives a sense of her vibe).
I’m not blind, I know she does look different, but it doesn’t matter to me, and I know that to whatever extent she wants things to change, they can (especially once she’s healed up and can actually exercise, feel good about going shopping, etc etc ).
If it was up to me, she’d just give herself maximum grace right now during this time and now give a single fuck what she looked like (within reason, obviously I want her to feel cute and take care of herself etc). I’m just at a bit of a loss at this point.
If she reminds you of yourself at all, and you have any pointers… thank you.
