MV Agusta 675 vs. Triumph Street Triple R owners...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQM51XfMFMc

thoughts on that review?

I was really leaning towards the Street Triple R because I was comparing it to the FZ-09; mostly because the MV wasn't even on my radar.

I'm used to a 2003 CBR600rr that I'm converting to a track bike and want something that I can ride to work/weekends when its sunny. Any other suggestions? THoughts?

Edit: might as well throw in the 848 street fighter in there too, its pretty bad ass.

The fundamental problem with the MV is that there's no shops around. They're hard to get ahold of, and then even harder [and more expensive] to maintain.

There's no such thing as someone who regrets buying a street triple.

EDIT: Actually, I do have a tiny bit of regret that I didn't buy the R-spec. I really wish I had fully adjustable suspension.

Agreed on the last bit, I think the r goodies are definitely worth it.

Yea I'll have to look at if it is even reasonable to own one.

And the R goodies are so cheap compared to the upgrades on most bikes (like $2500 on Ducatis). I couldn't pass up all those goodies for $600....

I bought a non-R Street Triple as well, and ended up putting Daytona forks, shock and brakes on it.

Best mod ever!

It's 1000% more settled through corners and completely confidence inspiring. And while the ride is firmer, it's not really less comfortable.

When you open your garage what's the first thing you'd rather see?

The striple or the fz?

There's your answer.

I like the single headlight of the 848 and the single swing arm of the mv, but I think I'd still prefer the triumph.

Then the triumph is then one.

You can always sell it, but I doubt you will ;)

I'm got an original round-headlight Street Trip, so I'm biased. Every test confirms my own feelings - it's just one of the greatest bikes I've ever owned, irrespective of capacity.

The sad thing is that the current version appears to have been slightly sanitised. Interestingly, the R hasn't been.

The original R had exactly the same engine as the cooking version, and the only difference was the suspension and brakes. A lot of people thought that £800 was a lot simply to pay for slightly better kit, when the original was so damn good anyway.

I'd bet my salary that the change to the new basic Trip has been made purely for marketing reasons - to make more of a gap between it and the R, to justify the extra price.

I'm extremely pleased that I've got one of the original loopy ones. I don't like the looks of the new one, nor the fact that it's had a few rough edges filed off.

I think the Brembo brakes and adjustable Ohlins upgrade is worth the $700; I think the newer ones look a bit more aggressive than the old ones, maybe I should look at an older one.

The only issue I have is that they are hard to find used in good condition.

The Street Triple R doesn't get Brembos or Ohlins. I think you're confusing it with the Speed Triple R (or Daytona R) which does get this stuff.

The Street Triple R gets 4-pot radial Nissans and adjustable KYBs that are almost identical to the non-R Daytonas pre 2009 (ie before the Daytonas switched to high/low speed suspension adjustments and monobloc calipers).

Oh you're right, my bad.

I thought the street got monoblocs? Damn, I didn't realize it didn't have the same setup as the daytonas... Hmm, I dunno what to get then. I've heard that the street has enough brakes.

The new ones come with Brembo in the back, Nissan in the front... for some reason.

The street triple is the obvious winner on paper but they are both compelling. I would try my best to ride each one and see which one puts a bigger smile on your face.

I hope I can find both locally.

The MV agusta will break, be unreliable and cantankerous and bits will fall off it.

If you're going to get a street fighter why not go for the full power model?

irideOP2003 R6, 2010 wr250r, 2007 ninjette•

So speed triple? Or the 800 MV?

Abbrevi8Unrepentant squid. •

I could totally deal with the MV breaking half the time and emptying my wallet as long as it wasn't my only form of transport. It depends on where you set your priorities. I'm a heart more than a head man so I wouldn't care what the MV (or the Ducati for that matter) costs to own financially, emotionally, and sanity wise.

If you want reliable you'd go the Street Tripple.

You mentioned the yamaha FZ09 there, have you thought about the MT-03?

Making blanket statments like "The MV will break" is retarded. They are known for being picky but come on. Have you ridden either one? Do you have any idea what the reliability of the street triple is? Because they don't go hand in hand. The street triple had a stator recall from 06-09 which left a lot of owners stranded. It's also known to have leaking headlights and other wonky electronics. Triumph is good about the recalls and all the issues have been fixed for 2012 and on.

Have you ridden either one?

Yes, but more importantly I've known more than a couple of owners. Wog bikes break. It's a fact of life.

Do you have any idea what the reliability of the street triple is?

Well a work mates is leaking oil (classic triumph) but the 4 others I know of seem to be going ok. Speed tripples are pretty solid too, but apparently they have this habit of rusing quickly.

Really?

I've logged 18000 kms this year since march.

Not a single issue.

I know of a brand new F3 800 that's blown a seal, it's not even 500km old.

But the seal enjoyed it....

It's almost as if anecdotal evidence... doesn't matter!

That's just one MV... Another's had electrical issues that'd make a ducati owner cry and another vibrated it's number plate off.
