is it worth playing initiator in low ranks

im gold-plat mainly play to have fun and i really do enjoy initiator abilities and when we five stack i have a good kda but whenever i play alone with initiator i seem to not do that well even tho i try. Is this a me problem or initiator role is just not that great in lower elo
