Baptized but my faith is crumbling, I need clarity on Christianity
Hi everyone,
I(25M) was baptized as a Christian, but lately my faith has been struggling. I’ve had many doubts, and I know I’ve made mistakes and sinned even after baptism. On top of that, people around me—my family and friends, who are also Christians—are asking similar questions, and I don’t have clear answers for them or for myself.
I’ll try to organize my doubts:
Note: I’ve rephrased and organized my questions with the help of ChatGPT for clarity, but these are my genuine doubts.
---
### 1. Faith vs Being Good
- Why do we have to believe in Jesus to be saved?
- If someone doesn’t believe in Jesus but still lives a good, moral life, will they go to hell?
- Is Christianity mainly about being a good person, or something more?
---
### 2. Baptism
- The Bible says to believe and be baptized — is baptism absolutely required for salvation?
- What if someone truly believes in God but is not baptized?
---
### 3. Other Religions
- Other religions like Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism also teach doing good and avoiding evil.
- If they are also teaching good values, why is belief in Jesus necessary?
- When sharing Christianity, what should we actually tell others — “be good” or “follow Jesus”?
---
### 4. Conversion
- Why do Christians actively try to convert others?
- Other religions don’t seem to emphasize conversion as strongly — why is Christianity different?
- If someone is already a good person, why should they convert?
---
### 5. Israelites & Other Gods
- In the Bible, Israelites often turned to other gods.
- If there is only one true God, how did these other beliefs and gods arise?
---
### 6. Life of Jesus
- Why are many years of Jesus’ life (childhood to ~30) not recorded?
- Is there any historical explanation for this?
---
### 7. Sin & Human Nature
- Are we really “sinners by birth” because of Adam and Eve?
- If Jesus said to be like little children, and children are innocent, how does that fit with the idea of being born sinners?
---
### 8. Fear of Hell & Life as a Test
- Sometimes life feels like a test where one mistake leads to hell.
- If I struggle with things like anger, jealousy, or bad habits, does that mean I’m doomed?
---
### 9. Suffering & Disciples
- Why did the apostles and early disciples suffer and die in such painful ways?
- If God is good, why allow that level of suffering for people who followed Him?
---
### 10. Violence & Religion
- Why do people get so angry and even violent over religion, including against Christians?
- If God is good, why does following Him sometimes lead to persecution?
---
### 11. Church & Pastors (Honest Concern)
- I’ve seen churches where money seems to matter a lot (tithes, donations, different treatment).
- Some pastors seem more focused on money or status.
- In some cases, baptism is done just for marriage, and people don’t continue in faith afterward.
Questions:
- Why is this happening?
- What is the correct biblical view on money and church leadership?
- Are there still genuine servants of God today?
---
### 12. Churches & Structure
- Why are there so many churches, sometimes even multiple on the same street?
- If the goal is saving souls, why this kind of fragmentation?
---
### 13. My Core Question
I genuinely want to follow Jesus, but I don’t want my faith to be based on fear, confusion, or pressure.
- What is the core reason to follow Jesus?
- What should I truly believe and hold onto?
---
I’m not trying to criticize — I’m trying to understand deeply and honestly.
I would really appreciate thoughtful, respectful answers 🙏
