Leni Robredo Leads Launch of Naga Solar Project, Firms Donate P1-M Panels to Cut Power Costs

The Naga City government has rolled out a rooftop solar initiative aimed at reducing electricity expenses, with Mayor Leni Robredo set to finalize an agreement with two private firms providing the project at no cost.

The initiative, formally launched on April 23, will install 200 photovoltaic (PV) panels on the rooftops of the Raul S. Roco Library and the Naga City People’s Hall. The project was greenlit after the Sangguniang Panlungsod authorized the mayor to negotiate and enter into a contract.

Project donor Emerging Power, Inc., represented by Joseph Nocos, and contractor Ecological Energy Technologies, Inc., led by Fowell Justin “Icko” Tan, committed to supply both materials and services free of charge.

Nocos said the 200 solar panels, valued at around P1 million, are expected to significantly cut the city’s electricity consumption by reducing reliance on power from the local electric cooperative. The city government projects savings of up to P70,000 monthly from its average P200,000 electricity bill.

The partner companies said their support aligns with Robredo’s push to improve public services despite limited resources. In addition to the solar panels, Emerging Power, Inc. will also donate heavy equipment, including an excavator, dump trucks, wheel loaders, fuel and water trucks, and a service vehicle.

Robredo expressed gratitude to the firms, noting that the assistance will help the city avoid additional expenditures while advancing sustainable energy efforts.
