Just venting…

Surgery related

I’m 33 yrs old had a hysterectomy 4 days ago.

I’ve had heavy periods, debilitating period pain and nausea for as long as I can remember, and my periods would always last 9-10 days.

As well as anaemia and multiple iron infusions.

I had an ultrasound at the end of 2023 which detected a 3cm fibroid. OBGYN suggested I get the IUD cos she said removing the fibroid could affect my fertility.

I never got the IUD and put up with the pain and heavy periods for about 2 more years.

I then saw a different OBGYN in Jan 2026 who did another scan and said the fibroid was now 6cm and suggested I get that removed.

I told him I wanted a hysterectomy as I don’t want kids and I’m over the pain and how sick I get every month from my periods. After a bit of pushback from him, he agreed to go ahead with the procedure. (Keeping my ovaries)

After the op he came to see me and told me that as well as the fibroid, I had ALOT of endometriosis, but he removed it all.

It’s crazy knowing that over all these years of me going to the doctor and complaining about my periods, none of them mentioned or suspected I had it. Everytime they told me to get an over the counter anti inflammatory and suggested I take birth control to control the heavy flow.

Makes me wonder how long I had it but at least I know there was a reason behind by my insane level of period pain/heaviness/nausea. 🤦🏻‍♀️🥺
