Is neoliberalism the root of all of the world's problems right now?
I'm currently studying a masters in Urban Planning and it has been surprising to read so much about the neoliberalism movement and it's effects on public services round the world.
I'm not a economics expert, but I know a lot of the neoliberalism economic policies boil down to interpretations of Friedrich Hayek's theories about the dangers of central control and state intervention.
Do you think that handing over state infrastructure and services to private-sector actors has degraded society over time? I think people feel pissed off, isolated and alone and this explains why populism is on the rise (both on the left and right) across the world...people clearly want change, but I do wonder if people are aware that the real enemy is this neoliberalist economic policy and not (insert other nonsensical problem here e.g. immigrants, refugees, women, trans folk etc.)
This may be a very shallow take, but I just wonder why there isn't more consciousness about how much damage this rollback of state intervention has done to communities around the world. The only country that looks to be functioning at a high level and doesn't seem to follow the doctrines of neoliberalism is China...
