Air Conditioning has not been repaired in over 8 months. Can I legally call a HVAC company to come fix it and bill the landlord?

Location: I live in Michigan, United States of America.

I have wrote several work orders to the complex I live in, and they close them out as successfully completed. It has been over 8 months, and the temperature in my unit averages 85 degrees. Can I call a HVAC company to do the repair and make them pay? Or should I just break the lease under terms of it not working. Thank you.
