A possibly silly question about bases, how you go about with them, how do you pick them, etc.
Hello!
So I am still new to the game (72h) and I am about to start yet another run, but I feel I am running into the same issues each run.
None of my runs lasted long (3-4 weeks tops), but I think one of the biggest reasons for that is my base. My problem is, I usually pick out a house that looks like a decent base location, hoard some stuff there, board up the windows and then... kinda stagnate. I never really get about expanding a lot on it because it needs a lot of mats to move around, pick them up, bring them to location, open containers, build this, fetch other mats, build that, etc. Or I end up accidentally luring a horde with my car to my base. Or maybe I just realise this is not the base that I want/should have long term and then the idea of packing up everything and bringing it to another location, redoing things just makes me not want to do it.
With the newest 42.17 patch, I am thinking of starting out in a new location that was previously unavailable. Not sure yet where but I will look infos up but my question is... how do you go about setting up bases? What is something that you always want to have and what is something you shouldn't necessarily be worried about if you don't have? Is there a simpler/better way than hoarding a lot of planks and nails or that is just how it is? What do you focus on when setting up a base? Boarding windows? If so, fully, on both sides? What do you build first? What do you need for longer term?
I am considering sometimes trying out a more nomad run but I can't see myself lasting for too long like that.
I never really played a lot of survival games with crafting and building and in games with housing and decoration and stuff I don't usually spend a lot of time with these kinda things for the most parts with a few exceptions. So I understand this might be a fundamental issue but I just wonder if I approached it differently, maybe it would help.
Thank you!
