Simon Vance narrated my audiobook!
I'm an author, and my new novel Concert Black came out this week from Blackstone Publishing--one of the leaders in audiobooks but also a traditional publisher as well. As was the case for my prior book, the publisher asked for my thoughts about audiobook narrators: male or female, American or British, young or old, etc. I went for broke and said that Simon Vance would be my dream narrator, as he would be perfect for this story, which requires a British accent, features a 70-something protagonist from London, and involves some accent work. Plus, Simon has been my favorite narrator over many books through the years. To my delight, he took the job!
The audiobook is out from Audible, and it is fantastic. I can't tell you what a treat it was to listen to for the first time. Here is the link, where as we all know you can get a five-minute preview. The story in brief: a biographer sets out to write the life of the conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He tries to stop her to preserve a decades-old secret. The novel ranges from postwar London to the modern concert halls of Boston and Chicago. Think Tar meets Atonement.
Anyway, just thought I'd share this side of the audiobook experience as well as my squealing delight to get my dream narrator read my book. Happy to chat about it in the comments if people are curious to know more!
P.S. My prior novel, Above the Fire, was narrated by Robert Fass, who was also phenomenal and won an AudioFile Earphones Award for his performance.
