Cost basis reset for RSU's
Hi, I moved from US to Canada in 2025 in June. I was on F1 visa and work for Meta. I moved to Canada on a work permit. My company gives me RSU's which are a part of my salary structure. So does my cost basis reset when I move to Canada and sell my stocks here.
Hypothetical scenario:
I got Meta stocks at $100 in 2023, I moved to Canada when the stock was $300. Now the stock is at $350. So if I sell now, will I be paying taxes on $50 or $250 in Canada.
There is a rumor going around that Canada movement will reset my cost basis and I will just have to pay taxes on $50. Can someone confirm this?
Thanks!
