What pushed you to look for HireVue alternatives?
Genuinely curious about other people's experiences here.
We've been on HireVue for about two years and recently started exploring alternatives. Not because anything is broken. The platform works. Candidates complete interviews. We get video recordings. The basics are solid.
But a few things have been nagging at us:
The cost feels high for what we actually use. We run one-way video interviews. That's 90% of our usage. We're paying for a platform that does a dozen things and we use one of them.
The AI scoring is there, but the team found it harder to interpret and explain to hiring managers. When a manager asks "why did this candidate score a 72?" we want a clear answer tied to the criteria we set. That's been harder to get than we expected.
The renewal process felt transactional. Prices went up. No explanation beyond "value adjustments." At a mid-size company where every dollar gets scrutinized, that's a tough conversation to have with leadership.
The implementation overhead was another factor. When we first set up HireVue, it took weeks with their onboarding team. Every time we want to change something meaningful in our workflow, it feels like a project rather than a quick adjustment. For a team our size, we need tools we can configure and adapt on our own without scheduling calls.
And then there's the feature bloat question. We're paying for live interviews, coding assessments, game-based assessments, and text recruiting. We use none of those. It's like paying for a 500-channel cable package when you watch three shows. The value is there for someone, just not for us.
We're in early stages of looking around. Not committed to switching yet. But I'd love to hear from people who already made the jump.
Some questions for the community:
- What was the final straw that made you switch from HireVue?
- What alternative did you go with and how does it compare?
- What do you miss about HireVue (if anything)?
- For those still on HireVue at mid-size companies, how do you justify the cost internally?
- Has anyone negotiated HireVue down to mid-market pricing? Is that possible?
No vendor pitches please. Just want real experiences from people who've been in similar situations.
