New Diptyques
(I have never uploaded pics to Reddit before, so please bear with me if I screw it up.)
I ordered four of the new Diptyque scents in the classic size. Annoying price increase aside, the redesign is very nice. The glass looks slightly thicker, and the I love the feel of the recessed label area and embossed label.
I've burned each candle once for at least four hours to a full pool, and experienced no tunneling. (I use the Williams Sonoma cloche.) I like all four scents, no duds, but I don't think any would crack my Top 5. It's too soon to say if any would be a repurchase; right now I could only say that for sure about Cafe.
Cafe seems to have the strongest throw, and I really love the scent. It's a strong, roasty, straight up black coffee with some kind of spiced, not too sweet, cake or cookie on the side. Just the way I like my coffee and my coffee candles. Shiso also has a strong throw. It's very green, kind of like basil, and also a bit more on the sweet side than I prefer. Rhubarbe smells just as I expected it: tangy and earthy. The throw is moderate to strong. Sesame Noir is the most unique scent of these four. I love sesame in all its forms in cuisine, particularly sesame oil, which is kind of how I was envisioning this candle scent. It does not smell like sesame oil. It does not smell like my container of sesame seeds. It has a drier, more pungent edge, kind of dusty/powdery and maybe closer to tahini or sesame candy, but not sweet? I would have expected more nuttiness, but I'm not getting the roasted hazelnut note Diptyque mentions. I think I'm going to have to burn in a smaller space because the throw is too light for the room I burned it in.
