Why is India not called Hindustan?

I've been a hobbyist for maps since I was a kid. Some of the older maps from the 1700s and 1800s refer to the Indian subcontinent as Hindustan. Then it changes to India in the 1930 to 1950s.

Wouldn't India prefer to keep it precolonial name especially when they moved back to old city names like Mumbai.
