The Paleontologist by Luke Dumas is disappointing
For a book about ghost dinosaurs. I went in expecting to be scared but no instead the author needlessly obsessed over wanting go remind us that COVID was taking place and apparently couldn't almost go even one page with needlessly mentioning it.
It got really annoying quickly. I went into a book for ghost dinosaurs not needing to know how the protagonist wears and puts on his mask or applies hand sanitizer which for some reason the author needlessly went into detail about.
Remember everyone. Ghost dinosaurs could be out to get you in every corner but first social distancing! Lmao.
Such a frustrating book with a neat concept botched by the authors fetish to constantly keep mentioning COVID.
I read books mentioning COVID or taking place during the pandemic. Extinction by Douglas Preston and The Kaiju Preservation of Society by Joseph Scalzi but at least those books didn't needlessly obsessed over the virus and pandemic. That was where my problem lied with The Paleontologist.
This book sucked.
