Did a culture swap yesterday (Canadian Christian/Punjabi Sikh)

Other

Yesterday 2 of the girls from work that ive made friends with, and i, did a little culture/religous exchange thing yesterday, and i think it went really well.

I'd found out that they had wanted to visit a church since they got to Canada but hadn't found one open during the week when our days off are, so i took them to a big Anglican Cathedral in Downtown, walked through and the rector and i answered all their questions, walked them through a service and we got lucky with the organist and choir doing rehearsals. Once we finished that we went over to the market building, walked through all the vendors, they tried Cannoli and Buttertarts for the first time, and we got some Poutine for lunch, which they really liked.

Then we went to the Gurdwara, walked through and they explained their 15 rules, went through the history and we went into the hall, where they had their equivalent of an Altar, explained all the symbolism and then we went to the cafeteria. I ended up being given some roti, and kidney beans in a curried sauce that ended up being really good, and also a yogurt and chicpea desert thing, which i wasnt as big a fan of but did finish out of politeness. Afterwards we washed up and ubered over to a Punjabi restaurant, i ended up getting Mango Lassi which i already liked and a Samosa Chaat thing, with 2 big samosa in a very well seasoned curried sauce/soup with vegtables, which i will be going back to get again, it was so good.

Its the first time ive done something like this, but i really enjoyed it and now i want to do it again not just with them, but more people from diffrent cultures and religions, its also just nice to step out of my comfort zone and help someone else enjoy stepping out of theirs aswell.

Up next, Im taking them to my buddies annual May two-four bondfire, make some country music, cook some hotdogs and make some smores, and set off a bunch of fireworks.
